The most popular name for dogs and cats in Vancouver is the same name

A new report has been released revealing the most popular pet names in Canada for dogs and cats, and in Vancouver, the top name for both types of pets is actually the same one!
According to Rover in its 14th annual top names report, Luna is the number one name for both dogs and cats, signalling that some pet owners may not be very original.
Rover is the world’s largest online marketplace for personalized pet care.
“The names dog and cat parents choose to give their pets are often a direct reflection of who they are, what they like, and what’s going on in the world at the time,” Rover notes.
There are other overlaps in the top five cat and dog names.
The top five dog names are Luna, Charlie, Coco, Milo, and Bella. For cats, it’s Luna, Leo, Milo, Bella, and Kitty.
However, the top trending names reveal a completely different story.
The top three trending dog names are Cosmo (up 1,214 per cent), Peanut, and Zeus, while the top trending cat names are Nala, Frankie, and Archie.
Some of the most popular food-inspired names for dogs and cats in Vancouver include Sesame, Toro, and Sushi.
“Pet parents turned to nature for inspiration, choosing names like Coho, Fern, Nami (Japanese for wave), and Haru (Japanese for spring),” Rover said.
Rover also featured Vancouver in another report it published earlier this year, for Canada’s best cities for dog walking. Vancouver ranked #1, ahead of Montreal, Toronto, Hamilton, and Mississauga.
The analysis from Redfin and Rover also highlighted the most popular dog breed and top-trending dog breeds across the top cities. In the top four spots, including #1 Vancouver, the Golden Retriever is king among all dogs. In total, the Golden Retriever is the most popular breed in six of the 11 cities that made the list.
Another Metro Vancouver city made that list, with Surrey, B.C., coming in at #7. Surrey’s favourite breed is the Labrador Retriever, while the top-trending dog in Surrey is the Boston Terrier.
