Vancouver named Canada's best city for an activity that all dogs love

Vancouver is often ranked as the best in various categories, but now the dogs in the city are getting some attention nationally.

According to a new report from Rover and Redfin on Canada’s best cities for dog walks, Vancouver is number one.

Rover is the world’s largest online marketplace for pet care, while Redfin is a real estate company. Rover paired up their latest dog breed data with Redfin walk scores to find the cities “where a good walk is always right outside the door.”

“Peak moving season is winding down, but for pet parents, the hunt for the perfect walking route never really ends,” the report states.

Vancouver took the top spot with a walk score of 79.8, followed by Montreal and Toronto.

The analysis from Redfin and Rover also highlighted the most popular dog breed and top-trending dog breeds across the top cities. In the top four spots, including #1 Vancouver, the Golden Retriever is king among all dogs. In total, the Golden Retriever is the most popular breed in six of the 11 cities that made the list.

Vancouver’s top-trending breed is the Brittany Spaniel. Rover says that the Brittany Spaniel is the perfect match for Vancouver, being built to run, hike, and explore all day. Vancouver’s rainforest trails, mountains, and seawall all make for a perfect place for Brittany Spaniels.

Vancouver also hosts fun dog-focused events, like the recent Pet-A-Palooza — The Day of the Dog, which took place in Yaletown. Many businesses in Vancouver are also pretty chill if you bring your pup inside.

Another Metro Vancouver city made the list, with Surrey, B.C., coming in at #7. Surrey’s favourite breed is the Labrador Retriever, while the top-trending dog in Surrey is the Boston Terrier.

Rounding out the rest of the list after Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto are Hamilton, Mississauga, Winnipeg, Surrey, Saskatoon, Ottawa, Brampton, and Cambridge.
