3 Vancouver clothing stores where you can upgrade your summer style

Jul 30 2020, 6:27 pm

Summer looks and feels a little different during the pandemic. But this doesn’t mean our personal style should have to suffer.

BC is reopening in phases to protect residents and mitigate the impacts of COVID-19. This in turn has allowed local business owners to reopen their brick-and-mortar retail stores to safely serve the community.

With many clothing stores ready to greet customers again, Vancouverites finally have the opportunity to pick up summer essentials and one-of-a-kind pieces — all while supporting local. We’ve rounded up three clothing stores you need to add to your list this season.

Brooklyn Clothing Co.

Davie Street store Brooklyn Clothing Co. was founded in 2003, offering locals a premium denim selection. More than a decade later, the store continues to specialize in everything men’s denim, and it complements its denim program with shirts, sweaters, outerwear, footwear, and accessories by North American brands.

Since the COVID-19 crisis began, Brooklyn Clothing Co. has endured the challenges faced by many retailers, but it has also seen a dramatic increase in theft. However, optimism and a great support network have allowed the store to reopen. Store capacity is now limited to four people at a time, sanitization measures have increased, and change rooms are located on opposite sides of the store to allow for distance. Additionally, all garments are steamed at a high temperature before going back on the shop floor.

Brooklyn Clothing Co. offered customers the option to book a private shopping experience during the soft lockdown, and the store is continuing to offer this service. Shoppers can also browse the latest collections via the online store.

West of Woodward

A new arrival to Vancouver’s boutique fashion scene, West of Woodward specializes in premium denim, apparel, shoes, and accessories. Founder Sean McGarva recognized that the casual market for professional women in downtown Vancouver was under-represented. This led McGarva and his wife Cris to bring their vision to life in partnership with The Fold retail group.

West of Woodward was due to launch its store opening on March 15. However, the pandemic meant that it had to remain closed to the public until May 19. The McGarvas are excited to be officially open in Yaletown with the neighbourhood’s only premium women’s denim lounge. In-store, a maximum of four people are permitted at one time, change rooms are located on opposite sides of the store, and all surfaces are being sanitized frequently. West of Woodward is steaming all tried-on and non-purchased garments at a high temperature.

Anyone who wishes to shop alone or with a group of friends over drinks can book out the entire store for a ‘private shop’ experience. Shopping via the online store is another option.

Indochino

Made-to-measure apparel leader Indochino was founded on the belief that you don’t need to spend a fortune on a custom wardrobe. Shopping with Indochino allows you to take on the role of a designer, creating your own custom suits, shirts, chinos, and outerwear to fit your exact measurements — with hundreds of fabrics and customizations to choose from.

When the pandemic hit, Indochino was forced to close all of its showrooms, including two here in Vancouver: in Yaletown and Metropolis at Metrotown. It has since reopened its locations in the city, complying with new COVID-19 protocols to ensure client safety. This means you can get measured in-person and choose everything from your fabrics to customizations with the help of experts in-store.

Support Indochino while adding to your summer wardrobe by shopping online or booking an appointment for your nearest showroom location at indochino.com.
