Advance voting in Vancouver’s civic election begins tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 3, as the City of Vancouver reports record demand for mail-in ballot packages.
Yesterday, the City said requests had surpassed 18,000 — more than 70 per cent above the 10,523 packages requested for the entire 2022 civic election. The deadlines to request mail-in ballots are fast approaching.
Voters can cast their ballots at any of 59 advance voting locations from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3; Wednesday, Oct. 7; Saturday, Oct. 10; and Tuesday, Oct. 13.
The final opportunity to vote will be on civic election day, Saturday, Oct. 17, with 85 voting places open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Municipalities across British Columbia will hold civic elections that same day — not just Vancouver — with many other communities also opening advance polls this weekend.
Just one week later, on Saturday, Oct. 24, voters across B.C. will return to the polls for the snap provincial general election to choose an MLA to represent their riding. Advance voting in the provincial general election will begin one day before the civic election day.
In Vancouver’s civic election, voters will choose a mayor, city councillors, Vancouver Park Board commissioners, and Vancouver School Board trustees, as well as two separate plebiscites.
They will also vote on capital plan plebiscite borrowing questions to fund new and upgraded facilities and infrastructure. A separate non-binding public safety plebiscite will seek their views on public hard-drug use and a proposed secure medical treatment facility for people with mental health and addiction issues.
Vancouver voters are not limited to a voting location in their own neighbourhood. Locations and voting dates can be found through the City’s online voting map.
