Vancouver’s 2026 civic election ballot is set, with voters heading to the polls on Saturday, Oct. 17, to choose a mayor, 10 Vancouver city councillors, seven Vancouver Park Board commissioners, and nine Vancouver School Board trustees.

Eight candidates are seeking the mayor’s job: incumbent Ken Sim of ABC Vancouver, Colleen Hardwick of TEAM For A Livable Vancouver, Pete Fry of the Green Party of Vancouver, Rebecca Bligh of Vote Vancouver, Muhammad Ahmad of Bright Future Vancouver, and Kareem Allam of the Vancouver Liberals, along with Amauri Caliman and Scott Gilbert, neither of whom has a listed party affiliation.

A total of 56 candidates are vying for the 10 city councillor seats. ABC Vancouver has the largest council slate with nine candidates, followed by TEAM and the Vancouver Liberals with seven each. Vote Vancouver and Bright Future Vancouver each have six, OneCity has five, and the Greens and COPE each have four.

Earlier this year, OneCity, the Greens, and COPE agreed to limit the number of candidates each party would field for City Council, Park Board, and School Board. Late this summer, shortly before the municipal government’s nomination deadline, COPE’s Stephanie Allen and OneCity’s William Azaroff also withdrew from the mayoral race. These moves were intended to reduce competition and limit vote-splitting among progressive/left-wing candidates.

There are a total of 35 candidates competing for the Park Board seats, while 31 candidates are running for the School Board positions.

Altogether, the 2026 civic election has 130 candidates. This is down from the 2018 civic election’s 158 candidates (21 mayor, 71 city councillors, 33 Park Board commissioners, and 33 School Board trustees) and the 2022 civic election’s 137 candidates (15 mayor, 59 city councillors, 32 Park Board commissioners, and 31 School Board trustees).

The same ballot form for choosing elected officials will also include a plebiscite question on the municipal government’s capital plan, specifically on borrowing $790 million to help fund the construction of new and improved community and recreational facilities and infrastructure.

In addition to voting for Vancouver’s next elected municipal officials for the next four-year term, voters during this civic election will be given a second ballot form for the two public safety plebiscite questions. Last month, the ABC governing majority in City Council approved the following non-binding advisory plebiscite questions on public safety:

Are you in favour of the City of Vancouver strengthening its laws to forbid open-air hard drug (Heroin, Meth, Fentanyl, and Crack) use in public spaces?
Should the City of Vancouver formally ask the Province of BC to convert portions of the old St. Paul’s Hospital, or another similar site, into a secure medical facility that provides acute voluntary and 100-plus involuntary care beds for individuals posing a serious risk to themselves or others due to severe substance use and mental health disorders?

Advance voting will take place on Oct. 3, 7, 10, and 13, ahead of the general voting day on Oct. 17. The number of voting locations for this year’s election has been significantly expanded, especially for advance voting. Alternatively, voters can also request a mail-in ballot package.

The lists below follow the official ballot order, determined through last week’s random draw by the City’s election officials. They include each candidate’s ballot number and, if applicable, party affiliation in brackets.
