With the end of the holiday season now behind us, many people are taking down their Christmas decorations.
The City of Vancouver has several options for residents to dispose of their Christmas trees.
Set it out for pickup
If you have City green bin service, you can set out your tree by 7 a.m. this Saturday in the same place you put your bins. Place it on its side and make sure it can be seen from the lane or street.
“Collection will take place throughout the month and be completed by Jan. 31, 2026,” the City says.
Take it to a chipping event
On Saturday and Sunday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., you can take it to four locations around the city where it will be chipped and composted.
- King George Secondary School parking lot
- Kitsilano Beach parking lot
- Kerrisdale Ice Arena north parking lot (5670 E. Blvd., north of 41st Avenue)
- Trout Lake Community Centre parking lot
Donations of cash and non-perishable food items are being accepted for local charities.
Green bin
If you miss disposing of your tree this weekend, you can put it in your regular green bin by cutting it up into small pieces (less than 50 centimetres/18 inches in length and less than 10 centimetres/4 inches in diameter). Your green bin should be loosely packed, and the lid closed.
Transfer station or landfill station
You also have until Jan. 31 to drop off your tree at the Vancouver South Transfer Station or Vancouver Landfill.
