Police are uncovering more details about a 92-year-old Vancouver man and Chinatown resident who died in March.
According to the Vancouver Police Department, on March 18, the victim was found in medical distress behind Carnegie Community Centre near Main and Hastings. He was discovered injured in the alley.
He was transported to the hospital by an ambulance for treatment and died nearly two weeks later on March 31.
Now, police are saying that they have confirmed additional details of what transpired before he died.
“We have confirmed the victim in this case was assaulted by multiple people before his death,” said VPD Constable Tania Visintin.
“We share the community’s grief over this loss of life, and we understand there are many questions,” Visintin added.
“Information about this death will undoubtedly impact people’s sense of safety and community in Chinatown. Although it will take time, we are committed to finding all of the answers.”
The VPD is now trying to determine whether or not those assaults contributed to his death.
“VPD’s Homicide Unit initiated an investigation after the man’s death was reported to police. Investigators have identified several suspects and are looking for anyone with information to come forward,” VPD said in a statement.
