Two men who were returning from a hike at a scenic B.C. spot just over an hour from Vancouver had their vehicle, a Jeep, stolen at gunpoint.
Mission RCMP officers are now investigating what the force is calling a carjacking after an April 4 incident.
According to the Mission RCMP, two men were hiking Steelhead Falls and arrived back at the parking lot at around 5 p.m. One of the two men went to use the washroom while the other returned to the vehicle.
When he did, he encountered two other men wearing balaclavas getting out of a white pickup truck. The truck was parked behind the Jeep.
A handgun was pointed at the vehicle’s owner, and the masked men demanded that he turn over his keys. One of the masked men then took control of the Jeep and drove off, while the other returned to the white pickup truck and left the scene as well.
No one was injured in the incident.
Shannon Falls is around an hour and 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver and is touted as a good place to hike. The area is well-reviewed on Google, which calls it a “scenic spot.” Visitors have many good things to say about it, including the trails it offers.

The Jeep that was stolen was a 2024 Grand Cherokee model, which Mission RCMP has provided a photo of. They added that the Jeep is stock in appearance.

“The white truck used by the offenders was a four-door pickup, slightly lifted, with no front plate,” said Mission RCMP.
“Anyone who was in the area of the Steelhead Falls trail on the afternoon of April 4 and saw a matching white pickup parked there, or who has any information on the whereabouts of the stolen Jeep, is asked to contact Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161, file 25-3703,” it adds.
