The J.T. Miller trade between the Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers has officially been completed.
The Canucks traded the 32-year-old centre to the Rangers in late January in exchange for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and a top-13 protected 2025 first-round pick. The Canucks flipped that pick to the Pittsburgh Penguins a short time later in a trade that saw them obtain defenceman Marcus Pettersson.
The Rangers wound up getting the 12th selection in the upcoming draft, giving them the option to either part ways with that pick or, instead, give the Penguins an unprotected first in the 2026 draft. Ultimately, they chose to play it safe and ship their 12th overall selection to the Pens.
The Rangers are sending Pittsburgh the No. 12 pick in this year's draft to complete the J.T. Miller trade.
New York will have its 2026 first round pick.

The Canucks chose, at least partially, to move on from Miller due to a feud with now-former teammate Elias Pettersson. While both were rumoured to be on the trading block, management chose to hang on to the younger of the two assets, a move scrutinized by some.
Miller had struggled to begin the 2024-25 season, but was everything as advertised with the Rangers, scoring 13 goals and 35 points in just 32 games. The 32-year-old has five seasons remaining on a contract that carries an $8 million cap hit.
As for the Canucks, they do have a first-round pick at this year’s draft, as they’re currently slated to pick 15th overall. Whether they wind up using that selection or trading it on, or ahead of, the draft day remains to be seen.
