Muriel Lindsay was 40 years old when she was working at Canada Post in Vancouver on Georgia Street at the time of her murder.
She was working “on or about” Feb. 16, 1996, when she was allegedly murdered.
Over 30 years later, a murder charge has been laid against a Mexican citizen.
The Vancouver Police Department is sharing some but not all of the details behind an investigation into the 30-year cold case. The investigation was called “Project Honour.”
VPD Inspector Ryan Smith spent 12 years investigating the case. He said that Lindsay was loved by friends and family who still miss her to this day.
“While it is a relief to see a charge finally laid in this matter, it marks the start of another sad chapter for Muriel’s loved ones. Our thoughts are with them now,” Smith said.
Investigators identified Rueda Salud as a person of interest. However, he left for Mexico in March 1996, a month after Lindsay’s death. VPD said that investigators located him in Oaxaca, Mexico, in 2015.
“The case is now before the courts, so I can’t discuss specific evidence, but I can say that our forensic investigators gathered a considerable amount of evidence at the crime scene. We worked diligently for decades with other agencies in Mexico and the United States, as well as Canadian law enforcement agencies and our Forensic Science and Technology partners at BCIT, and we were able to identify Rueda Salud as a suspect,” Smith said.
Smith added that Salud was formally charged in connection with the Vancouver Canada Post murder on Nov. 2, 2024.
He was “arrested under a provisional warrant in Mexico on Jan. 22, 2025.”

After 18 months in custody and appealing the extradition order, Salud became eligible for extradition to Canada last month.
“VPD investigators flew to Mexico on Monday and escorted him back to Vancouver on Wednesday, where he remains in custody,” VPD said in a release.
“This was a complex case that involved multiple agencies and many officers,” said Ryan. “It shows our collective commitment to solving cold cases, regardless of how long it takes.”
