North Vancouver RCMP is sharing some information about a seemingly wild incident that took place at the Lonsdale Quay.
According to the RCMP, one man has been taken into custody following mischief to a police vehicle.
The incident took place on Aug. 10, when North Vancouver RCMP received a call for assistance from BC Emergency Health Services. The call was pertaining to an aggressive patient.
RCMP says that the first officer got to the scene shortly after 8 p.m.
The man who was the subject of the medical call “immediately” climbed on top of the hood of the police cruiser, “and repeatedly punched and kicked the windshield, causing significant damage.”
More North Vancouver RCMP officers arrived on scene, and “ultimately took the man into custody,” RCMP says.
The male subject of the medical call was taken to hospital for treatment of the injuries that were sustained while he attempted to smash the windshield. The officer inside the vehicle was also taken to hospital as a precautionary measure due to the debris from the shattered windshield.
North Vancouver RCMP shared that the suspect is known to police and that he is now facing several charges relating to damaging the police vehicle.
It sounds like there were a lot of people in the family-friendly and popular area who witnessed the scary-sounding event.
“This was a dynamic and frightening situation for many bystanders who witnessed the incident in a very populated area,” said North Vancouver RCMP Corporal and Media Relations Officer Mansoor Sahak.
“We are extremely grateful that no one was seriously injured as a result of this incident,” Sahak added.
