Local cocktail brand opening 'first-ever' East Vancouver cafe and you won't have to tip

A Vancouver-based cocktail company will soon be opening its first-ever cafe in East Van.
Duchess Cocktails, named after Duchess the Cocker Spaniel, is opening its first brick-and-mortar space with Duchess Cafe at 1249 Adanac St. in East Vancouver.
Duchess Cafe opens on Sept. 3.
The brand was founded by Olivia Lovenmark-Hay six years ago, and it has since built a following offering stylish bottled cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks.

Its new cafe will be located in the same building as its parent company’s Coupe Beverages production facility.
Lovenmark-Hay designed the space herself, which will have dedicated areas for retail and community events.
“We’re so excited to finally welcome our community into a space that feels completely
Duchess,” Lovenmark-Hay said in a release.
“We’ve spent the past eight months considering every detail, from the layout, paint colours, and lighting to the custom cups and menu. After years of bringing Duchess to people through our bottles, pop-ups, and events, it feels incredibly special to finally have a place of our own where people can experience the brand in person.”
Something that many patrons may enjoy hearing is that Duchess Cafe will operate with a no-tipping model, instead choosing to compensate employees fairly with a “fair living wage.”
Ex-Animo will be supplying coffee and pastries, while Whisked Away, founded by a mother-daughter duo, will be supplying bespoke cookies, which include a custom Duchess cookie.
“Duchess Cocktails is the brand behind BC’s best-selling Cosmopolitan and Canada’s first 12 per cent bar-quality bottled cocktails,” Duchess said in a media release.
