Some might not know this but Oak + Fort was originally an online eCommerce store until they opened up their first physical store in our very own historic town of Gastown. Oak + Fort prides itself on a lifestyle, dedicated to a fused culture of art, fashion and exploration. They are known for a broad selection of contemporary and progressive garments with care for style, statement, comfort and quality in mind. I had a chance to have a quick chat with Oak + Fort regarding their new fall line and some of their favourite fashion items of the season.
Where does the name Oak + Fort come from?
Our previous Creative Director came up with a list of names and out of the hundreds of names, Oak + Fort was chosen.
What is the history behind the store and how long have you running?
OAK + FORT began as an online store based in Edmonton, Alberta and quickly expanded into retail. We opened our first brick and mortar store in Gastown, December 2010.
Any other locations we should be aware of, or thinking about in the future?
We opened a second location in Edmonton in April of 2011. We will be bringing our sister brand, Loft 82, to Vancouver in 2013!
What is your favourite item that you carry?
It’s hard to play favourites because the store is filled with things that we love – every piece is special to us. But for this Fall, the Becka Blouse would be our top choice. It has faux-leather detailing on the cuffs and collar and the shape is boxy without being too masculine. It looks great tucked into a skirt or pants or just worn loosely with dark denim.
What look/pieces would you recommend for fall?
We truly believe that it’s all in the details this fall; leather detail pockets and trims.
7. What is a must have accessory for fall?
Musts: leather backpacks and jewelry with geometric motifs. It’s really about finding pieces that are simple but interesting.
8. I love your accessories at Oak + Fort, what is your favorite?
We have this amazing pair of Curved Nail Studs that just came in for Fall Winter. It’s small enough to not be distracting but the shape and design of it will give any outfit that extra something. We’ve had to do a re-order on a lot of accessories because the moment it hit the stores, they sold right away.
Can’t wait to see what else Oak + Fort has to offer in store, and definitely look forward to the new sister line!
