Vancouver-based Reach app makes group projects easier for students

If you’re a student, you know how frustrating group projects can be. You want to stay organized and communicate with classmates, meaning you add them as Facebook friends, then you create a Facebook group, and when you’re finished your project, you never really talk to your group members again.

The whole process is a hassle, but Vancouver-based tech startup Reach Social Inc. is trying to change that.

Essentially, Reach is a communication platform that is designed for students to use when they are assigned group projects and academic work.

Sarah Main, 22,  and Brent Hussy, 21,  are the creators of Reach and recent graduates. During their time in school, they realized there was no online communication system students could use exclusively for academic work.

“We encountered the problems first hand. When I was at McGill I was frustrated that there was no appropriate tool for students to collaborate or communicate with one another,” Main tells Daily Hive.

Main and Hussy also recognized that school-based software was very outdated and inefficient.

Reach takes care of these issues, with its sleek design and practicality. And once the project is done, students no longer have to keep the contacts in their group.

“With our program, there is no need to disclose any personal information and at the end of the work term, or however long you are working with the students for, all the contacts are wiped out but you can hold on to the content,” Hussy said.

Reach is launching today at the University of Victoria, SFU, and BCIT. In the coming weeks, the rolling launch will continue to other university campuses across the country.
