Watch Vancouver bartenders duke it out at this first-ever boxing event

Oct 29 2019, 2:14 pm

It’s not often that you get to witness the thrill of a boxing match in Vancouver. But if you’re in town this Wednesday, October 30 and are looking to experience the excitement and glory of the ring, you’re in luck.

You won’t be watching just any old athletes, either. These competitors are our city’s cocktail connoisseurs.

Say what?

Bartenders from across Vancouver have been training for the last 90 days to fight it out in the city’s first-ever Bar Spar — an initiative sponsored by Tequila Cazadores, in partnership with Bartender Boxing Organization, that aims to improve the lives of bartenders by promoting health and well-being in the industry through the sport of boxing.

Considering bartending is a profession that often leads to neglected wellness due — in part — to long hours and late nights, the wellness component of the program is especially revolutionary. Since Tequila Cazadores prides itself on being a premium tequila that punches above its weight, Bar Spar is advocating for bartenders to do the same #NoCheapShots. (See what they did there?)

Bar Spar has already put on knockout matches in ten cities around the world since 2016. It offers bartending communities not only the opportunity to revolutionize the way they eat, drink, and workout, but also the opportunity to take pride in themselves, represent their city, be positive role models for their peers, and find love for the sport of boxing.

If you’ve frequented Vancouver bars The Diamond, Keefer Bar, Pourhouse, or Botanist you might just see a familiar face in the ring.

The program, along with Tequila Cazadores, encourages bartenders to take a new lease on their health by drinking less, but drinking better. Cazadores uses only 100% agave tequila from Los Altos de Jalisco in Mexico, where they’ve been using the same recipe for nearly 100 years.
