There are SO many holiday activities at the Vancouver Aquarium this month

Dec 19 2019, 6:27 pm

Itā€™s almost Christmas and weā€™re busy embracing the holiday magic all around us. The decorations are up, our festive playlist is on repeat, and gingerbread cookies are becoming a daily treat.

The city really comes alive at this time of the year, but the best holiday events are always a little off the beaten path. This season, it’s all happening at theĀ Vancouver Aquarium, an Ocean Wise initiative.

From now through January 5, 2020, there’s something for all ages to enjoy. Bonus: if you feel like showing up in your ugly Christmas sweater or wearing a Santa hat, that’s totally ok.Ā

Meet Scuba Claus

We all know itā€™s the busiest time of the year for Santa, but heā€™s still making time to visit the Vancouver Aquarium to spread festive cheer. Thatā€™s right, Scuba Claus is in town, and you can catch him doing daily dives at 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm with the fish (wearing his red suit and flippers) until December 24.Ā

Since itā€™s the season to (hashtag) make memories, why not pose for a snap with Scuba Claus? You can do so between 10 am and 3:30 pm on Saturday, December 14, Sunday, December 15, and from December 20 through 24. Itā€™s probably going to be the best $23 you spend this season, with proceeds going to Ocean Wise conservation efforts.Ā

Light up your holiday spirit

You could take a festive selfie anywhere in the city, but there’s only one place where you’ll have moreĀ than 60,000 creatures and holiday dĆ©cor around you. Check out theĀ electric eel-powered Christmas tree, and see feedings taking place at 11:30 am daily. It’s all glow at the Aquarium!Ā

Celebrate the season, warts and all

Bring the kids along to explore the tot-friendly kelp maze and take photos in front of the mesmerizing jelly snow globe. Then, get a hot chocolate and feel transported to the North Pole as you watch Polar Express 4D Experience in the Aquariumā€™s 4-D theatre.

Visiting with your significant other? If youā€™re looking to have the ultimate couple goals moment, sneak a kiss or two in under the ‘mistle-toad.’ You just have to find it first.

Check out the marine debris treeĀ

The Vancouver Aquarium, an Ocean Wise initiative, is highlighting a powerful message when it comes to adopting sustainable habits over the holidays. Designed by Tofino-based artistĀ Pete Clarkson, the marine debris tree is decked with items collected during shore cleanups on the west coast of Vancouver Island.Ā

Still have a few people left on your list? Support ocean conservation and reduce harmful single-use plastics by gifting an Aquadopt KitĀ or an annual membership for the Aquarium.
