April is just around the corner, and it looks like the wild weather will continue in Metro Vancouver.
Lisa Erven, warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), told Daily Hive that the region can expect “fairly wild swings” during April and into May.
“Spring is a dynamic season as we’re moving from the coldest months to the warmest. This season can bring any type of weather, from late season cool temperatures to early heat events. Showers, thunderstorms, and sunshine are all possible.”

Just within the past few weeks, Vancouver has seen an atmospheric river, thunderstorm and wind warnings, and some of the highest temperatures of the year.
According to Erven, the large-scale weather pattern shows an influence of low pressure
“This will bring showery weather, cloudy skies, and cooler temperatures to the region,” she said. The first week of the new month will see showers continuing and temperatures near normal.
The average April in Vancouver sees a daily high of about 13°C and lows of almost 6°C.

April also tends to be a fairly wet time for Vancouver, with an average of 85.2 millimetres of rain. It’s hardly Vancouver’s wettest month, coming in drier than November, December, and January, but it can certainly see some storms.
The ECCC warning preparedness meteorologist encouraged Vancouverites to be prepared for any weather during their spring outings.
“With showery weather patterns continuing, pack your umbrellas if you’re doing outdoor activities,” Erven said. “And make sure to drive to conditions and slow down, as rain can impact visibility. You can also download the WeatherCan app to get alerts as they happen right on your phone.”
