A woman was reportedly attacked in a Vancouver apartment hallway, and the alleged perpetrator of the attack has been arrested.

According to a release from the Vancouver Police Department, the attack occurred at 9 a.m. on Jan. 8 at an apartment in the Oakridge neighbourhood, near West 41st Avenue and Ash Street.

VPD received a 911 call from someone who reported the incident, claiming that a man was assaulting a woman in a hallway.

“Neighbours heard the commotion, called 911, and held the man until police arrived,” VPD said of the alleged attack.

The victim is a woman in her 60s, while the suspect has been named as 34-year-old Sanket Sanjay Karve. He has since been charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm in connection with the Vancouver attack.

The victim was hospitalized, but the extent of her injuries wasn’t revealed by VPD.

The attack has been labelled a stranger attack due to the belief police have that the victim and suspect were not known to each other.

This is the second attack in as many weeks involving a woman in her sixties being attacked. The other was a road rage incident that Daily Hive reported on Jan. 9. According to a release from the Vancouver Police Department on that file, a suspect has been charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm after he allegedly punched a woman in the head multiple times during a driving dispute.
