There’s a new foodie destination in Abbotsford, and it boasts a lineup of stellar location makers.
The Rail District Community Market is a part of a bigger initiative, the Valley Food and Farm Collective (VFF), which officially kicked off on July 26.
VFF’s weekly evening market will “encompass the Valley’s communal spirit” and it will feature food trucks and live music too.
Aiming to “bridge the gap between what is farmed and crafted with the food that is prepared and shared,” the weekly evening market will be held in a 9,000-sq-ft building located in Downtown Abbotsford’s Rail District.
VFF was spearheaded by Josh Vanderheide, owner of Field House Brewing, along with Bonnie Friesen, the Executive Chef and Head of Food Services at Field House Brewing.
“We have the food and the people who want it, but we needed to create the connection point and actually bring it from the farm and into our city,” says Vanderheide.
The “lack of defined food culture in the Valley” was what inspired the creation in VFF.
VFF’s first stage includes these weekly farmers’ markets, and during the second stage (anticipated for November 2018) the team has a long-term vision of the development of a commissary kitchen, communal brewhouse, local food cafe, community rental space, and a music venue.
