The Utah Hockey Club is inching closer to having an official team name for the 2025-26 season and beyond.
After relocating from Arizona following the 2023-24 season, the organization chose to go with the Utah Hockey Club to give them the proper time to come up with a name that they felt was appropriate.
All signs seemed to originally point to them being named the Utah Yetis. That no longer appears to be an option.
The United States Patent and Trademark Office refused the name due to the already well-established YETI company, known for its coolers, drinks, and bags.
It was back to the drawing board for Utah following the news, and now, they have three new names as finalists. The organization is looking for help in their decision to decide between three names:
- Utah Hockey Club
- Utah Mammoth
- Utah Wasatch

Fans in attendance at any of the upcoming four home games will be presented the opportunity to vote on the team’s name moving forward. As if helping pick a professional sports team’s name wasn’t cool enough, the same group of fans will also have a say in the logo.
While Mammoth is another name that has garnered plenty of attention, fans online have had a good chuckle about Wasatch, with many confused about what it even means.

For those who remain puzzled, Wasatch Range is a mountain area in the western United States, located primarily in Utah. It’s known for its beautiful landscapes and alpine lakes.

This isn’t the first time Utah has asked for fans’ assistance in naming the team. Their owner, Ryan Smith, asked fans for suggestions on a name last spring. They wound up having 20 that were voted on by fans and then cut that number down to six. Throughout the entire ordeal, fans wound up casting more than 750,000 votes.
While a date for an official name has yet to be announced, Smith Entertainment Group (SEG) says they are on track to have one decided upon before the 2025-26 season.
