Looks like Utah’s NHL team accidentally leaked their new name

We may finally know what the Utah Hockey Club will be named next season, though the way it was revealed came in rather shocking fashion.

It’s been known for months now that Utah was going to decide between three names: the Mammoth, the Outlaws, or their current name, the Hockey Club. Those hoping for the former may be getting their wish.

Fans noticed that Utah’s YouTube channel, which has over 27,000 subscribers, changed its handle from “@UtahHockeyClub” to “@UtahMammoth.” This may have been a mistake on the part of whoever is handling their social media pages, as it was quickly changed back to the Utah Hockey Club a short time later.

It’s also possible that this whole thing is a plot to heighten anticipation even further, all while having some fun with hockey fans. That said, many believe this was a genuine mistake, and are in full belief that the organization will soon change its name to the Mammoth.

Utah, which relocated from Arizona following the 2023-24 season, had a respectable inaugural campaign, finishing sixth in the Central Division with a 38-31-13 record. They had terrific fan support from start to finish, largely due to the way owner Ryan Smith makes those who watch feel like they are part of the team.

Should they indeed change names, you can expect to see many fans hitting the stores to find some Mammoth merch to rock.
