The Mammoth are coming to the NHL.
In a video released to its social media pages on Wednesday morning, the NHL team formerly known as the Utah Hockey Club revealed it’ll be known as the Utah Mammoth moving forward.

While most new franchises have several years to plan their team identity, the Utah contingent was only officially granted last April, announcing they would take the Arizona Coyotes’ place in the NHL, giving them a shorter timeline to come up with a permanent brand identity.
The team played this past year at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City.
The news of the new name actually confirms a leak from the team itself last week, when eagle-eyed fans noticed that the team’s YouTube channel showed the Mammoth name as well, following a series of fan votes to decide the new moniker.
The team ran into trademark issues with calling itself the Utah Yetis, which was initially rumoured to be the preferred name. Utah ownership reportedly got the blessing of the Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League before settling on calling itself the Utah Mammoth, per ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski.
The team’s home jersey features a mammoth logo, while their away jersey features the capitalized “Utah” across the front of the jersey that they’d worn in their first season.
“We couldn’t be more excited to launch the official name and marks for Utah’s NHL hockey team. When it came to naming the team, we did something unprecedented – going through four rounds of community voting, including getting feedback not only on potential names but also on potential logos,” said Ryan and Ashley Smith, owners of the Utah Mammoth, in a release.
“We love the passion of the people of Utah and the way they showed up for the team during its inaugural season and the energy they brought to voting on its permanent identity.”

As per the release, the team’s permanent brand identity was developed in collaboration with renowned design firm Doubleday & Cartwright.
