Urban Culture Conference + Awards Vancouver

Dec 19 2017, 12:52 pm

The first annual Urban Culture Conference + Awards Show has been announced! The Urban Culture Conference will bring together people who are 19+ and interested in popular cultural topics such as music, sports, art, fashion, tattoos, social media, University nightlife, and more. The conference will be held over a two-day period this summer, at one of Vancouver’s premier conference locations.

Voting / Awards

The primary purpose of the Urban Culture Conference + Awards is to let individuals in the Vancouver area ‘express themselves’ in a number of ways:

A major aspect of the conference is the awards show. Unlike traditional awards shows where winners are often not the favorite of the public, the Urban Culture Awards is completely transparent and online. Currently, the general public is nominating for their favorite cultural icons in a number of categories (on the UCC website homepage) during this initial phase. Leading into May, the second phase will begin, where we will take the top nominations in each category, and let users vote on the “best of.” Because the results are always completely transparent, this system encourages users to share and compete. The value in a transparent voting system lies in personal expression. Alas, an awards show that the public can truly vote on and see their results as the weeks progress.

Launch Party

Friday before the Conference and Awards weekend begins there will be a launch party to build hype for the weekend and allow everyone to meet one another in a social environment. There will be a red carpet, photo opportunities, live Tweet (social media hashtag) wall, and more.

The Event

At the Conference, there will be business booths, contests, giveaways, performances, notable figures from each category, tons of networking, and other exciting events to engage the audience. This event is 19+ only as there will be alcohol and smoking culture present on the conference floor.

Secret Parties

Leading into the conference weekend there will be secret parties where the public has to complete mini contests offline in the real world in order to gain access. Taking pictures of certain graffiti work, going to certain businesses to get pieces of a map, and other tasks. At these parties special guests will be performing, the liquor will be free, and there will be swag bag giveaways.

Ticketing

Tickets will be available on their website very soon. You can also save on your tickets by paying with a Twitter tweet or Facebook status update, the details are outlined on their website Blog.

Sponsors and Booth Space

People or businesses looking to sponsor elements of the conference or book booth space are encouraged to email at [email protected] or by giving them a call at 604.563.8260.
