We are excited to announce the winner of the Urban Barn Next Top Designer Contest, local designer and creative female entrepreneur, Penelope Sloan!
Urban Barn recently had a design competition featuring 3 local interior designer finalists at the Home And Design Show. Each designer was given a 10×20 space and a $5,000 budget to select furniture and decor items from Urban Barn to show visitors what could be accomplished in their own home with a 5k budget. Show goers got to vote on their favourite room, and the winner, Penelope Sloan, won with over 700 votes!
Penelope wowed the crowd with selection of juicy citrus colours, a hand painted mural (in collaboration with artist nick Gregson) and clever use of reclaimed fence wood that she turned into a faux fire place mantel. Her goal was to create a warm and cozy atmosphere, that was happy and inviting.
“I was assigned citrus and rural retreat as my colour and design theme, so I wanted to create a space that was cabinesque, but also chic, contemporary and most importantly, made people feel good! I wanted to showcase all my skills, since I am an interior and graphic designer and artist who loves to be hands on and break out the powertools! I also wanted to show people they don’t necessarily need to own a cottage to experience an escape from the city, they just need a little imagination and the right home decor!”
