Aspiring Canadian MUAs will have to wait a bit longer for Ulta Beauty’s arrival into the North as its expansion gets suspended amid the pandemic.

In an email to Daily Hive, Ulta Beauty has made the decision to end its expansion into Canada, stating the impacts of COVID-19 have affected the beauty retailer’s future plans.

“This decision underscores our focus to ensure we are well-positioned to safeguard and grow our US business and to continue to lead the beauty industry as the nation’s number one beauty retailer,” said the Ulta Beauty spokesperson.

At the moment, Ulta is prioritizing their US locations and still plans to expand their brand on an international scale when the time is right.

“While we are prioritizing our U.S. operations at this time, we continue to believe the Ulta Beauty value proposition is relevant and differentiated in multiple geographies around the globe,” said Ulta.

“International growth is a longer-term opportunity for Ulta Beauty; we cannot speculate as to timing for next steps in this space but when the time is right to reengage international opportunities within our growth strategy, we will certainly apply the strong learnings we gleaned throughout this process.”

In the meantime, Canada’s current makeup retailer, Sephora, has announced same-day delivery in the country, making it much easier to order cosmetic needs right to your door.

Although Ulta’s expansion into Canada has no set date, the possibility of the makeup giant claiming locations across the country is still on the horizon.
