Uber now lets Canadians book hotels directly through its ride-hailing app
Uber is expanding beyond ride-hailing trips and food delivery in Canada with the launch of hotel bookings directly within its app.
The new feature, introduced as the August long weekend approaches and the summer travel season reaches its peak, allows users to search for and reserve accommodations without switching to a separate travel-booking platform.
Canada is only the second country to receive the feature on the Uber app, following its initial launch in the United States. The Canadian rollout was first announced earlier this year during Uber’s annual GO-GET product showcase.
The service is being offered through a partnership with Expedia Group. Uber says the selection will eventually grow to more than 700,000 hotels and other properties in destinations around the world.
Users can book accommodations ranging from downtown boutique hotels to properties outside major cities and then coordinate their transportation to and from the hotel through the same app.

Uber One members are also eligible to receive up to 10 per cent of the value of their hotel reservation back in Uber credits. Those credits can be used toward future rides or Uber Eats purchases.
Hotel reservations are the latest addition to Uber’s growing collection of travel-related services.
The company has also introduced Travel Mode, an in-app feature that provides airport guidance and local recommendations; Uber One International, which extends certain membership benefits while travelling abroad; and One Search, which lets users simultaneously search for destinations, restaurants, food and retail products across Uber and Uber Eats.
The hotel-booking feature is now available to Uber users across Canada.
