Tyler Myers doesn’t like the nickname Vancouver Canucks fans have for him

Tyler Myers might be gone from the Vancouver Canucks, but his infamous nickname has apparently followed him down to Dallas.

About midway through his tenure in Vancouver, Myers got the nickname “Chaos Giraffe,” which seemed to stem originally from witty Canucks writer Wyatt Arndt.

It was a nickname that soon took off, as it seemed to perfectly encapsulate the sometimes chaotic play from the 6-foot-8 defenceman.

While he was seemingly never asked about it in Vancouver, it didn’t take long for members of the Dallas Stars media to pose the question.

Myers joined Stars radio broadcasters Bryan LeVine and Michael Dixon following a 2-1 Dallas win over the Vegas Golden Knights.

That’s where, for the first time, Myers was asked about his popular nickname.

“There’s been talk that your nickname was the ‘Chaos Giraffe,'” Dixon asked. “Where did that come from?”

“Yeah, let’s not bring that to Texas,” Myers replied promptly. “That’s my worst nickname, doesn’t even flow.”

When asked about what his former WHL teammate Jamie Benn called him, Myers simply said “Mysie.”

He did say that Benn had a second nickname for him as well.

“We had a weird thing in Kelowna, 17 years ago now, everybody calls each other by their dad’s name, and he’s bringing that back a bit,” Myers said.

Myers’ dad’s name is Paul Myers III.

Benn did speak recently about his recruitment mission on selling the Stars to Myers.

“Yeah, we’ve always kept in touch,” Benn said on the Stars television broadcast after their win Tuesday.

“Obviously, I’m gonna brag about how good it is down here, and what a great group of guys we have, and, you know, weather and fans, and taxes,” he said.

“So, it wasn’t that hard.”

Myers reflected on coming back to Texas, making him the first player born in the state to suit up for Dallas.

“I still remember where I was in ’99 when the goal was scored,” Myers said. He would have been nine years old at the time.

“To have a chance to come back to Texas, be close to some family and be on a team like this, I feel very grateful,” he said.

“I just wanna keep building with this group because it’s a great team.”

The Stars have won both games with Myers in the lineup. His workload has decreased significantly compared to his time with the Canucks, as he’s played under 14 minutes per night in both his games with Dallas so far.
