The Tyler Myers legacy in Vancouver is a complicated one.

However, despite a roller coaster seven-year reign with the Vancouver Canucks, the 6-foot-8 defenceman left the city as a beloved figure.

That much was evident when Myers posted a farewell message to Canucks fans.

“My family and I feel very fortunate to have called Vancouver home for as long as we did,” Myers wrote.

“Thank you to the team. Thank you to the city. Thank you to the fans. You all hold a special place in our hearts.”

After he posted the message on Instagram, Canucks fans flooded his replies with gratitude.

“Thanks for all you did in Vancouver,” one fan said. “Go win a Cup.”

“Thank you for seven years of amazingness and thank you for everything you did as a Canuck and the city,” another fan wrote. “I wish you the best of luck in Dallas, go Myesy go!”

Even Thatcher Demko’s wife, Lexie, got involved in the Myers love session.

“Ugh MISS YA ALREADY BABE,” she wrote.

Seeing such a strong send-off for Myers seemed implausible a couple of seasons ago.

Myers signed a massive five-year, $30-million contract with the Canucks back in 2019, but he never really lived up to it.

There was often a chaotic nature to the way he played defence, which could also infuriate fans.

But he helped win over Canucks fans by standing up for teammates. Heck, he even exacted revenge on Duncan Keith after the Hall of Fame defenceman concussed Daniel Sedin more than a decade prior.

By the time his NHL career in Vancouver concluded, he had finished with the 11th-most games ever played by any defenceman in Canucks history

“Thank you for everything, you have brought me and my friends so much joy,” one fan wrote. “We will always be grateful for the memories you’ve given us with the Canucks.”

Myers’ biggest impact on the Canucks organization might have been his accomplishments off the ice.

Just ask his teammates, who lamented the fact that he was gone from the team after the trade.

“He’s such a good leader, such a good human being… we’re gonna miss him,” Brock Boeser said after he was dealt to Dallas.

Fans also acknowledged Myers’ presence in the community.

“You will be missed!” one fan wrote. “Our family will never forget you and Michaela taking the time to visit our son in hospital. You made his day, his life, with your kindness.”
