This Vancouver tea salon serves up a killer burger with matcha fries

Tea salon, Wagyu burger, and matcha-dusted fries are probably not words you see in one sentence everyday, but in downtown Vancouver at the TWG Tea Salon & Boutique, this is real life.

It’s a no brainer to associate a high-end tea emporium and its in-store salon with elegant afternoons of finger sandwiches, bite-sized goodies, and cups of tea, but TWG Tea also happens to have a pretty epic menu featuring everything from eggy breakfasts to sweet and savoury crepes.

But let’s talk about the burger.

This isn’t your typical burger. First, know that all of the dishes at TWG Tea are made with tea as an ingredient. They’ve got tea-infused macarons, quiche made with tea-infused egg custard filling, and even tea ice cream. The tea isn’t skipped on the burger and fries, either.

For the burger, the Wagyu beef is formed into a succulent patty that is a bit more like a sausage texture than a crumbly burger. It’s big and bold in flavour (the chef says he nicknamed it the “pastrami burger” thanks to its robust taste) and that’s good, because they make their burger with Comte cheese, and a BBQ sauce infused with their Smokey Earl Grey for that hint of tea-ness.

The matchstick fries take things to the next level with white Alba truffle oil and a dusting of vibrant green Matcha salt for that extra pow. Dip ’em in the BBQ sauce for that double tea punch.

Pair this burger feast with one of TWG’s 500 teas they have available at their Vancouver shop–which happens to be the first in North America for this sought-after Singapore-based brand. But if you can’t quite get past sipping a hot cuppa and chowing down on this decadent burger, fear not: TWG serves any of their teas iced, too.
