T&T Supermarket will now require all customers to wear non-medical face masks while shopping in-store.

Calling it a “critical time” the grocery chain said it will “do everything” it can protect both its customers and staff.

“All our stores have been implementing social distancing, temperature check service, providing hand sanitizers and installing protective shield in all checkout counters. We know we could do more for protection,” T&T said on its website.

“According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, appropriate use of face mask or covering can reduce the spread of one’s own infectious respiratory droplets. Our staff stand at the forefront to serve our community, which we would like to make sure our colleagues are working in a safe environment.”

The new measure will come into effect on Monday, May 11.

Last month T&T introduced voluntary temperature checks for its customers.

The optional temperature checks are non-invasive, as employees use an infrared monitoring device that does not require any physical contact with the forehead.
