The Prime Minister tweeted a photo of the event, and said he had a “good meeting” with the group, which included discussions on such topics climate change, gender equality, and community.

But it wasn’t what he said, it was what people saw in the photo that caused an uproar online: There, on the table, in the foreground of the photo, a collection of – wait for it – plastic forks.

And with all the talk by the Liberals lately of everything from the carbon tax to announcing a ban on single-use plastics in Canada by 2021, the Internet wasn’t about to let this observation quietly slide.

Earlier this month, Trudeau appeared to get tongue-tied while answering a reporter’s questions regarding what he and his family were doing to cut out plastic waste while announcing his government’s plans to ban single-use plastics.
