Bernstein, Beach and Beyond – American Classical Music

What: Join Place des Arts vocal teacher and soprano Lambroula Pappas with pianist Matthew Ma for their tribute to American Classical music – an evening of beautiful music from the American Songbook. This concert will feature songs and cycles by composers such as Amy Beach, Samuel Barber, Aaron Copeland, and arias from the operas Porgy and Bess, Susannah, The Ballad of Baby Doe and more.

Blindside

What: A story by Stephanie Morin-Robert about living with one eye. Having lost her eye to retinoblastoma, Morin-Robert never plays the story for pity. She shares stories of horrific embarrassment, but plays them for laughs. She appreciates the humour in the absurdity and allows the audience to feel comfortable in sharing that experience.

Hyde Creek Watershed 13th Annual Fish Release & Open House

What: Help the Hyde Creek Watershed Society members release thousands of salmon into Hyde Creek. Members have spent 18 months raising coho from eggs through to fry and smolt stages and these coho are now ready to travel to the ocean. While you’re at the hatchery, visit the Education Centre and have a tour with one of the volunteer members. Exhibits and crafts are part of the day, along with a fundraising hot dog BBQ.

Parking is available at the Hyde Creek Recreation Centre on Laurier Avenue. It’s a short walk west along the Poco Trail to the Hyde Creek Education Centre & Hatchery.

Earth Day in Port Moody

What: Port Moody is full of Earth Day events on Sunday, April 14. Head out on a bird walk with the Burke Mountain Naturalists, participate in Portrait of a City, help plant Port Moody’s Canada 150 eco-sculpture and enjoy earth-friendly crafts, activities, and more. Plus enjoy a curated selection of Earth-inspired art by the Port Moody Art Association from April 14 to 18 in the Galleria.

Greg Kennedy: Innovative Juggler

What: After spending five years with Cirque du Soleil’s Totem, performing over 1500 shows in 25 cities for more than 3 million people, Greg Kennedy brings his craft to Coquitlam. He has a long and adventurous career as a juggler – from winning the Gold medal at the International Jugglers’ Association Championships, to performing on five different continents, he’s been featured on the cover of Juggle magazine, appeared on the Tonight Show, and received over two million views on YouTube.
