Hops on the line: TransLink launches its own craft beer

Catching the train never tasted so good, as TransLink is rolling out a refreshing new initiative aimed at promoting public transit, supporting local business, and raising its profile beyond the fare gate — through beer.
In a creative partnership with Patina Brewing Co., Metro Vancouver’s public transit authority has unveiled the “Platform Pilsner” — a limited-edition, transit-themed craft beer now available at Patina’s Port Coquitlam brewery and select liquor stores across Metro Vancouver.

TransLink will receive a portion of every sale, with proceeds going toward supporting public transit services. The initiative also highlights the role of public transit in local economic development, particularly in neighbourhoods like downtown Port Coquitlam.
This initiative is part of TransLink’s broader strategy to generate new ancillary revenues beyond fares and engage communities through creative campaigns — including limited-edition Compass Cards and transit-themed merchandise available through the online TransLink Store.

Featuring a can design inspired by the familiar purple, yellow, and white livery of the West Coast Express commuter rail, the Platform Pilsner is brewed using 100 per cent Canadian ingredients and offers a crisp, clean taste. The packaging was developed by TransLink’s in-house creative team, bringing a touch of transit flair to local craft beer shelves.
Just 1,500 four-packs (6,000 cans) have been produced for this exclusive run.
With only limited quantities of Platform Pilsner available, public transit and beer lovers alike are being encouraged to grab a four-pack while supplies last.

“This is another example of how TransLink is thinking outside the box — or in this case, outside of the fare gate — to generate additional revenue and support a local business,” said TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn in a statement.
“I think both transit and craft beer enthusiasts will appreciate this fun and creative collaboration.”
Sarah Harbord, director of operations at Patina Brewing, added, “Our brewery is just steps from major transit hubs, and many of our customers use transit to get here. This collaboration is a celebration of the people and communities we serve.”
Patina Brewing has built a loyal following since opening in 2020, known for its welcoming tasting room and small-batch beer offerings.
