The Vancouver Canucks are reportedly working the phones pretty hard with the NHL trade deadline less than a week away.
Vancouver sits just one point up on the Calgary Flames for the last wildcard spot in the Western Conference, and it sounds like help could be on the way. According to a new report from Sportsnet 650’s Jason Brough, Canucks GM Patrik Allvin is working on a pair of trades and the hope is that they get done before Friday’s deadline.
Fans could even hear news of one of the trades as soon as Monday.
“My many, many sources are telling me the Canucks are working on a couple of deals,” Brough said. “They like to get their work done before the deadline so don’t be shocked if we have stuff to discuss Monday.”
Not a surprise given it’s, you know, trade deadline week, but my many, many sources are telling me the Canucks are working on a couple of deals. They like to get their work done before the deadline so don’t be shocked if we have stuff to discuss Monday.

The Canucks have already been one of the more active teams on the trade market this season. They already shipped J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers and were also able to swing a deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins to acquire defenceman Marcus Pettersson and forward Drew O’Connor.
While Pettersson has been an excellent addition to the blue line, it does appear that the Canucks are still looking to add to their forward group. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman gave some context to Vancouver’s deadline plans last night.
“The Canucks have a situation where they’re looking to add to their forward group, whether it’s now or later,” Friedman reported. “I do think the Canucks still wanna make the playoffs… and I do think overall they want to add to their forward group.”

There are plenty of options still potentially available on the trade market when it comes to forwards. If Allvin wants a top-six guy he could maybe set his sights on somebody like Brock Nelson, who could shake loose from the New York Islanders. On the depth side of things, the Seattle Kraken have a litany of options with players like Brandon Tanev and Yanni Gourde expected to move at some point.
The exact target for the Canucks has yet to be revealed, but fans will be updating their social media consistently this week to find out.
