An American tourist visiting Lynn Canyon Park was seriously injured in a scary incident earlier today, and police are looking for witnesses.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20, North Vancouver RCMP and multiple other first responders responded to a call about a woman in her 50s who had fallen off a cliffside into the Lynn Canyon Valley.

North Vancouver RCMP announced that the woman was part of a group of tourists being guided by a tour guide at Lynn Canyon Park in North Vancouver.

She fell 30 metres into Lynn Creek and sustained serious injuries as a result of the fall near the suspension bridge.

“We are appealing to any witnesses who may have seen the incident or captured it on their phone,” said Corporal Mansoor Sahak, Media Relations Officer for the North Vancouver RCMP.

“The group was being toured around the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge, and the incident occurred near the north side of the suspension bridge.”

Authorities added that first responders on scene worked hard to rescue the woman, who was then airlifted and transported by paramedics to a nearby hospital.

“Police are investigating to gain a better understanding of what happened leading up to the incident,” added Sahak.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has video footage of the tourist injured is asked to contact the RCMP by calling 604-985-1311 and quoting file number 25-22168.

This is not the first scary incident to take place at Lynn Canyon Park.

A 21-year-old man died last summer while cliff jumping in the District of North Vancouver park.

Firefighters and paramedics were also called to Lynn Canyon in 2018 after receiving a report of a woman who had injured herself while cliff jumping from a 90-foot drop.
