Toronto Maple Leafs get booed off the ice and embarrassed by Florida Panthers in Game 7

The Toronto Maple Leafs didn’t show up in the biggest game of the season.
They were blown out by the Florida Panthers 6-1 in Game 7 of their second-round series, a repeat score of the Game 5 blowout.
With a huge Game 6 win on the road, Maple Leafs gave their fans hope that this year would be different. However, this year will go down as yet another dreadful playoff disappointment from the Leafs.
The Panthers were the better team right from the opening puck drop. They had the first 21 shot attempts of the game, and while they didn’t score in the first 20 minutes, the floodgates eventually opened.
The game was never close. The Leafs had some hope when Max Domi scored to make it 3-1 early in the third period, but it didn’t last long as Eetu Luostarinen answered right back for the Panthers less than a minute later.

The home fans were not impressed. They booed and threw jerseys on the ice. The referees had to clean debris off the ice plenty of times in the third period as fans showed their frustration.
This was the second time the Leafs were booed on home ice this series, as it also happened in Game 5.
Many fans left the game early in the third period when it became clear that the Leafs were not going to make a comeback.

The loss raises some big questions about the future of this Leafs core. They have shown an inability to get over the hump and patience in Toronto is running thin.
Mitch Marner and John Tavares are both free agents, and it’s unclear if they’ll be re-signed. Marner will be the most coveted free agent if he hits the open market. He scored 102 points this season, cracking the 100-point barrier for the first time in his career.
While he had a great regular season, Marner scored just two goals in the playoffs.

It should be an interesting summer in Toronto as this Maple Leafs team reaches a crucial junction. It’s very possible that Game 7 was the last time the “Core Four” all played together for the Leafs.
