The Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly close to making a massive announcement.
While the Blue Jays were unable to agree to a contract extension with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. before his Spring Training deadline, he may still be sticking around. A new report from USA Today’s Bob Nightengale this morning said that the two sides are still talking and a new extension could be imminent.
According to Nightengale, this new deal would be worth $500 million and keep Guerrero in Toronto for at least 14 seasons.
“The Blue Jays and Guerrero鈥檚 representatives continue to negotiate, exchanging figures and are expected to reach a resolution any day,” wrote Nightengale.
If these figures end up becoming reality, Guerrero would be signing the most expensive contract extension in MLB history. It would also keep him in Toronto until at least the 2039 season when he would be 40 years old.
Nightengale was not the only MLB insider to indicate that a deal between the Blue Jays and Guerrero could be imminent. Insider Hector G贸mez took to social media on Saturday afternoon where he mentioned that the two sides are working on the finer details of the extension.
“Money and years have been agreed to, just working finer details,” G贸mez wrote.

There were fears among the Blue Jays fanbase that Guerrero would bolt in free agency with both the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets being seen as potential suitors. The Blue Jays slugger didn’t help to calm those nerves after liking multiple Instagram posts that featured him photoshopped onto other teams.
