6 Weird and Wacky Eats to Sink Your Teeth into at the PNE this year
The annual fair at the PNE is in full swing, meaning that there is a huge amount of food to be consumed and enjoyed. Not only can attendees to the fair this year expect fair food staples like toffee apples, mini donuts and corn dogs but also a wide range of weird, wacky and over-the-top foods.
If you’re an adventurous eater or a lover of all things deep-fried then read on for Vancity Buzz’s list of the top six weird and wacky foods to try (or at lease attempt to eat) at the PNE this year.

Crocodile, Ostrich & Kangaroo Sliders ($12)

While these sliders look like your ordinary run-of-the-mill sliders they are anything but. Filled with crocodile, ostrich and kangaroo meat patties these mini burgers provide the perfect sampling plate for those who are daring to try some rather exotic meat at the fair. If they’re not unusual enough for you, the menu also features Python meat!
Foot Long Hotdog ($8)

For those who like a food challenge (or whose eyes are bigger than their stomachs) make sure you attempt to eat the fair’s foot long hotdog. At an arms length and loaded with onion this hotdog is one seriously whopping meal. However, if you feel like that’s not filling enough, you can order your hotdog wrapped in bacon. Good luck finishing that one!
Colossal Onion ($9.50)

At $9.50 the Colossal Onion is not a cheap eat but if you like onions you’ll love this dish. While it looks more like a blooming flower that has been deep-fried this Colossal Onion is in fact made from a jumbo onion, which is sliced up, opened and then dunked in batter. As you can probably imagine it tastes like a giant onion ring, only more oily and doughy. Thanks to its ‘colossal’ size this item is perfect for sharing.
Original Funnel Cake ($6)

Taking its name from the instrument from which it is poured the Funnel Cake is comprised of nothing but batter, which is cooked in a whirlpool of sizzling oil, then coated with icing sugar. As such, when ordering the Original Funnel Cake you can expect pure indulgence mixed with pure fat. You’re likely to have to sit down after this one.
Deep-Fried Oreos ($6)

The Fair at the PNE has quite the reputation for deep-frying just about anything from pickles to pop tarts. Even the much-loved Oreo biscuit can’t escape the deep-frying process. With a crispy coating and warm centre the deep-fried Oreo is a fantastically naughty and delicious treat. Despite the fact you may not be able to finish all five Oreos, you probably don’t want to calorie count your intake here.
Deep-Fried Mars Bar ($6)

Continuing with deep-fried confectionary items the next wacky and artery clogging dish on our list is the sinfully wicked deep-fried Mars Bar. On a stick and wrapped in a thick outer layer of batter this deep-fried dish pushes even the biggest eaters to their limit. While it may not be the most photogenic of foods the deep-fried Mars Bar has an explosive and incredibly gooey, melted, chocolate, caramel centre. Deep-fried Mars Bar best idea ever? You can be the judge of that!
