Tigerlily plays Vancouver on first headlining tour in North America

Dec 20 2017, 3:54 am

Being a DJ and/or producer is like the 21st century equivalent of being a rockstar. From the outside, it seems like all you have to do is play at parties and festivals for the rest of your career. What they don’t tell you, however, is how much hard work you’re going to clock to make this dream into a reality.

Hailing from Australia, Tigerlily‘s electrifying stage presence and drive to transcend the traditional expectations of a DJ sees her in a league of her own. Well known for her colourful and high energy stage performances, she continues to be a mainstay at Stereosonic Australia and has recently taken to the festival circuit in Europe.

We recently had a chance to chat with Tigerlily before her first show in Vancouver tonight as part of her headlining tour across North America.

Please introduce yourself.

My name is Tigerlily and I’m a 23-year-old DJ/producer, part mermaid, and full time weirdo.

I read that you’re really inspired by pop music especially in your stage performances. Who were you most inspired by this past year?

Music wise – Troy Sivan. Performance wise – my good friend Timmy Trumpet, as well as Flight Facilities. Otherwise – Eckhart Tolle.

Australia has been producing some of the world’s most loved electronic and dance music DJs and producers over the past few years. Who are some of your favourite producers and/or DJs from your home country?

What So Not, Kuren, Tkay Maidza, and Slumberjakd.

I read that you love producing songs with a strong anthem and message that people can sing along to and really connect with. Would you ever consider singing on your own tracks?

Yup for sure! Although I know I’m not a great singer, I don’t have any qualms about giving it a go. I’ve sung on some records before and have actually been working on one this week that I’m singing on.

It seems like you’re always on tour and playing shows all over the world. What are some travel hacks that you use to keep your energy and health up while constantly being on the road?

I eat as healthy as possible and try to keep my routine as regular as possible. My two best friends for flying are water and an organic oil that I use as moisturiser.

Your blue hair has become a signature look for Tigerlily. Besides that, what would you say another Tigerlily signature move or look would be?

Very uncoordinated dancing during my set, cute colourful outfits, and a smile!

If you were an emoji, which one would you be?

The banana – because bananas are my life force.

Anything else you want to say?

I’m super excited to be coming to Vancouver this weekend. I love exploring new places and meeting new people, and I think the show will be great!
