Riverdale fans were excited by the news that Tiera Skovbye, known for playing Polly Cooper on the popular CW show, got engaged over the summer. But did you know she initially said ‘no’?

The 22-year-old actress tells Daily Hive that her fiancé Jameson Parker had a big, romantic proposal plan, which she accidentally ruined.

“He was gonna do it in front of the fire and his brother was gonna take photos,” she says.

Parker tried to persuade his girlfriend to go out to the fireplace, but she refused. When he persisted, Skovbye started joking around: “I was like, ‘What, are you gonna propose or something?’ And then his face just fell. And I was like, ‘Oh my god, are you? No, don’t!'”

“I’d… completely soiled my drawers at this point,” laughs Parker. “Like, what do you mean ‘don’t’?”

Skovbye clarifies that she thought she would know when he was going to propose and would have to help him pick out the ring, so the surprise threw her off.

However, after the initial shock passed, Skovbye told her boyfriend that she would say ‘yes’ if he asked again. And later that night, he did just that.

Parker had the ring custom-made in East Vancouver based on a photo that Skoybye had sent when the couple were nine months into dating.

Luckily, he had held onto the photo and found a jeweller to recreate the design with a Montana sapphire.

Fans first learned of the engagement on August 14, when Skovbye posted a cheeky photo on Instagram.

The photos were actually taken two days after Parker proposed, when both of their families were hiking together.

Skovbye suggested taking some pictures because they were in a scenic clearing.

“We did not think that the engagement was gonna blow up like that,” said Skovbye.

Stories of the couple’s engagement have appeared in Cosmopolitan, People, Us Weekly, and Teen Vogue, which baffled the couple.

Parker says he was only miffed that the reporters didn’t appreciate his fashion choices.

“Tiera looked radiant in this and this, and Jameson opted for whatever he was wearing,” he said, laughing. “Jameson looked like crap, and Tiera looked phenomenal. Which is pretty much how it goes”.

While the newly-engaged actress is happy to share details about wedding plans, she remains tight-lipped about the upcoming season of Riverdale.

“I can’t really say too much without giving too much away,” she says with a coy smile. She acknowledges that she was a pivotal part of the first mystery (involving the murder of her on-screen baby daddy Jason Blossom), but the new season of the show is chock-full of new surprises.

“There’s still a lot up in the air for Polly,” she said, perhaps referring to the alleged twins her character has been carrying for the entirety of the first season. “There’s still things that I don’t even know yet”.

Skovbye confirms that the first few episodes of season two will revolve around the new killer that was revealed in the season one finale.

“It’s really intense,” she teases. “It’s a lot about [everyone in Riverdale] coming together to try and figure out how to be safe in the town, and what is ‘safe’, and what is this town now after what happened in season one, and what is happening in season two?”

However, she promises that this season, with nine more episodes than season one, will be just as exciting.

“It’s changing. It’s a lot darker, and there’s a lot more going on,” she added. “There’s a lot of mystery and things that people think they understand and they don’t”.

The second season of Riverdale premieres Wednesday, October 11.
