Everywhere Thomas Müller goes, winning seems to follow.
That was the case Tuesday during a historic night for Vancouver Rise FC, as Müller was among the over 3,500 fans in attendance at Swangard Stadium.
Vancouver’s professional women’s soccer squad beat Ottawa Rapid FC 2-1 in the first leg of their playoff matchup.
“I’m impressed with the supporters here and the atmosphere, but I’m way more impressed with the second goal,” Müller said to reporter Satira Patel at halftime. “It was an amazing goal!”
Rise FC striker Latifah Abdu scored a beautiful goal midway through the first half to give Vancouver a 2-0 lead. She scored both of Vancouver’s goals in the match.

Vancouver and Ottawa are two of six teams in the newly formed Northern Super League (NSL). The victory gave Rise FC its first playoff win in franchise history.
“The job’s not done,” Abdu told Patel after the game. “We have a long way to go. We need to go into training and focus on the little details, but we’ll be ready.”
