Pirate Weekend at the Cannery

  • What: Pirates invade the Cannery  in celebration of Talk Like a Pirate Day. Steveston’s own Shady Isle Pirates will set up a pirate encampment and lots of games and swashbuckling fun for the entire family to enjoy. Wear your best pirate gear, or try some of theirs, if you dare. Admission is free for Canada 150.

Vancouver International Photography Festival 2017

  • What: An annual festival that celebrates photography and the relating arts. Featuring seminars, lectures, a camera swap meet, exhibitions and more.

Whitecaps FC Charity Alumni Match

  • What: Whitecaps alumni and Hollywood stars will take to the pitch at BC Place in support of BC Children’s Hospital. Tickets to the alumni match are available for just $5. In order to attend the alumni match, fans must also have a ticket for the Whitecaps’ MLS match against Columbus the same day. The alumni match begins at 1:45 pm, with Vancouver Whitecaps facing off with Columbus Crew at 4 pm.

Bike the Night

  • What: HUB Cycling will open up Vancouver’s streets so that thousands of riders can experience Vancouver’s most iconic roadways after dark. Deck out your bike in lights and spread good cycling vibes with over 5000 other riders of all ages on this 10 km slow roll.
  • When: September 16
  • Time: Pre-party from 6 to 8 pm, ride from 8 to 10 pm

Shaggy

Comedians in Cosplay Doing Comedy: First of Her Name

  • What: Vancouver’s only cosplay standup comedy show, featuring Alex Sparling, Alain Williams, Hayley Beamish, Megan Milton, Robert Peng and Tanner McCoolman. Plus live music with Leah Howie and her bassoon, and erotic fan-fiction with Jesse Inocalla.

Market Mexico

  • What: A one-day, free Mexican “cultural experience” is coming to the heart of downtown Vancouver next month. On Saturday, September 16, the day-long outdoor pop-up event known as Market Mexico will take over Robson Square and everyone is welcome to come check it out. In addition to the market, the event will also feature music, film programming, and a Mexican market virtual reality experience that was produced by the Mexico Tourism Board.

Cloverdale Market Days

  • What: Located in Historic Downtown Cloverdale, Cloverdale Market Days is a large exciting market with vendors coming from all over Cloverdale and the surrounding communities. New to The Market Days events in 2017 will be displays from the Arts Council Of Surrey, more family activities, and closing of the roads on 176th street from 56A to 58 Ave to accommodate more vendors, activities, and food trucks.

Whistler Village Beer Festival Main Event

  • What: Located at the base of world-class mountains, the Whistler Village Beer Festival is the perfect place to test your craft beer expertise and to open your tastebuds to different kinds of hoppy brews like ales, lagers, and stouts. The festival will be featuring more than 120 beers from 60 breweries, so there’s certainly plenty of tasting to be done. You’ll get to enjoy live music, cask nights, food, and of course drinks throughout the festival, and during the Main Event at Olympic Plaza on Saturday and Sunday.

Vancouver Canucks versus Vegas Golden Knights

  • What: Pre-season NHL action is back in Vancouver as the Canucks take on the Vegas Golden Knights on September 17.

Southlands Country Fair

  • What: ​The Fair features pony rides, petting farm, equestrian entertainment by Southlands Riding Club members, a Silent Auction, a beer garden, local arts and crafts market, heritage displays, farmers market, and more. This year’s proceeds will go towards the Southlands Riding Club Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation Program, which rescues abandoned and abused horses and rehabilitates them so they can be re-homed as riding horses. The remainder of the funds are used to support the Southlands Riding Club, a non-profit society established in 1943 as a recreational and training facility for junior and amateur equestrian athletes.

Corbin & Shlohmo

  • What: Shlohmo is the creation of 22-year-old Henry Laufer, LA-native and visual artist turned selftaught musician. As a founding member of the WEDIDIT collective (RL Grime, Groundislava, D33j, Purple, 2kwtvr, Juj, Nick Melons), Henry’s early work placed him at the forefront of a new wave of rising talent amongst west coast producers. With an effortless grasp on sound design, Laufer combines deceptively simple and emotive melodies, subtle bass drops and swinging slow motion drums.

Lynn Headwaters and the Mining Frontier

  • What: A 10 km return hike with mines researcher Lloyd Knutsen in Lynn Headwaters Regional Park. Along the way, Lloyd will share his knowledge of the prospectors and history of mining in the area, look at historical artefacts and minerals, and tell stories using old maps and photographs. Presented by the BC Mills House volunteer hosts.

Terry Fox Run

  • What: The Terry Fox Run is an annual Canada-wide event that help to raise money and awareness for cancer research. The Terry Fox run happens in multiple locations on the same day. There are no entry fees, and while donations are encouraged, there are no minimum donations required. The simple act of support and continued awareness keeps the spirit and goal of the run alive.

Canuck Place Adventure Race 2017

  • What: Taking place at Jericho Beach Park on Sunday, September 17, the all-ages event offers a fun athletic challenge for all fitness levels in aid of Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. You can join in on the fun by doing a a 15 km scenic trail bike, 6 km run, as well as an exciting obstacle course, all for a great cause. Kids can also enjoy their very own custom race featuring a 3 km bike ride, a 2 km run, and an obstacle course before reaching the finish line.

The Sound of Music – Broadway Across Canada

  • What: The hills are alive in this new production of the timeless musical classic, featuring the most perfect family ever yodelling away in the Austrian countryside. The Sound of Music film adaptation is now over 50 years old, and this touring production will be a great way to revisit those “favourite things” of your childhood. Love it or hate it, we still have “Doe, a deer, a female deer” stuck in our heads…

Ambleside Farmers’ Market

  • What: The Ambleside Farmers’ Market takes place in Ambleside Park, at the foot of 13th Street, every Sunday through October. This market offers West Vancouver a gathering spot for picking up fresh local food and goods from crafters and food artisans.
