On Saturday evening, a man apparently robbed a Tim Hortons then leaped off the Canada Place pier into the waters of Burrard Inlet.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:40 p.m. after the man robbed a nearby Tim Hortons location, Global News reports.

To evade police, he jumped off the railing at the Canada Place pier, just outside the entrance doors into Canada Place and the East Building of the Vancouver Convention Centre. The plunge into the water from the pier railing is a height of about 20 metres or six storeys.

The man then hid under the Canada Place pier, where the structure’s pilings are exposed.

Police boats, the Coast Guard and divers were deployed to find the man, but they were unsuccessful. The search was called off at 8 p.m.

The male suspect is described to be Caucasian, in his 30s and 5’6″ tall. His whereabouts are not known.

Vancity Buzz has reached out to police for further comment.
