The PearTree Restaurant in Burnaby is closing this weekend
The time has nearly come for The PearTree Restaurant to close after an impressive 23 years of operation. Its last day of service will be on Saturday, August 15.
Located in Burnaby Heights at 4120 E Hastings Street, the distinguished eatery released a statement citing “irreconcilable lease negotiations” as the reason for shuttering.
In the announcement, the restaurant stated it was facing a challenge to find a “workable agreement” even before the pandemic hit.

The PearTree owners, Scott and Stephanie Jaeger, shared they had been grappling with 40%+ rent increase and a “landlord’s desire for a ‘demo clause’ in year one, along with a number of other unworkable clauses.”
Because of this, the husband-wife hospitality team said they had no choice but to close their doors.
“The last several months have been a challenge to say the least,” said Stephanie Jaeger.
“The dedication and commitment from the staff have been unbelievable and with amazing customers and suppliers supporting take out and restricted dining, we brought July sales back to be on par with last year so to not be able to find a solution to the lease is very disappointing.”

After closing, the duo plans to offer in-home catering and are “hopeful in finding a new option” for the business in the future.
The PearTree had just landed on Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants list for 2020, one of 18 BC eateries to make the cut.
