Lunar New Year festival in Vancouver will offer exclusive tastings, pop-ups, and a cocktail showdown

Taste of Chinatown! festival has returned to Vancouver with an exciting lineup of food collaborations, culinary pop-ups, and more.

From now until February 2, foodies can head to Chinatown and enjoy the month-long celebration, which coincides with Lunar New Year festivities.

Things to look forward to include a Lunar New Year Parade, a cocktail showcase, and, of course, delicious eats.

“We invite you to join us in Chinatown to celebrate Lunar New Year, and see first-hand the vibrancy and resilience of our community,” said Carol Lee, chair of the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation, in a release.

“Through collaboration with local businesses and partners, Taste of Chinatown! brings people together to share a cultural experience while supporting the heart and soul of our neighbourhood. We can’t wait for everyone to join us in this incredible celebration of food, art, and tradition, all while welcoming the New Year.”

A highlight of this year is the second annual Chinatown Cocktail Showdown on Friday, January 31. Eight of Chinatown’s finest bars and restaurants will go head-to-head to craft the best Lunar New Year-inspired cocktail.

  • Fiorino
  • The Keefer Bar
  • Kissa Tanto, Laowai
  • Meo

The Chinatown Storytelling Centre will host its Family Saturdays workshop on Saturday, January 18 with free admission for youth 17 and under. Visitors will learn how to turn red envelopes into eye-catching Lunar New Year decorations to take home.

The 51st Vancouver Chinatown Spring Festival Celebration is happening on Sunday, February 2, 2025, the fifth day of the Year of the Snake.

The popular event is expected to draw over 5,000 participants and more than 100,000 spectators to the neighbourhood, with family-friendly activities, live entertainment, and more for everyone to enjoy. Visitors can also check out weekend activities at the Chinatown Storytelling Centre.

There will be specialty tastings and pop-ups on Saturday, February 1, including Haywire Winery Lunar New Year Red wine, Holy Duck Chili HYPE Chocolate Bar, limited-edition BBQ Pork Cruffin collaboration from Chinatown BBQ x Beaucoup Bakery, and a special LNY Boba Run.

On parade day, Saan Saan Cafe’s Hong Kong Milk Tea and Pastries will be available for purchase as well as additional Lunar New Year specialty items at Foo Hung Curios. Admission to the storytelling center is just $5 per person throughout the weekend, with free entry for youth 17 and under
