Swimmer rescued from Vancouver indoor pool did not actually die: Park board

The swimmer that Vancouver’s park board said died after being pulled from a Vancouver community centre pool did not actually pass away, the agency now says.

Earlier this week, the board said that a swimmer at the indoor Killarney Leisure Pool did not survive on Sunday evening after lifeguards had to perform a rescue.

A spokesperson said the person was taken to hospital, where they later died.

But on Friday, the board sent out a statement saying the initial reports about the fatality were based on “incorrect information” and the person was still alive.

“We offer our sincere apologies to the family and individual. Out of respect for everyone involved, we will not be making further comments on their condition or the incident,” the email reads.

In additional information sent to Daily Hive, the board says it will “absolutely be reviewing how we confirm information” and it is “sincerely apologetic for issuing incorrect information.”
