Fleeing suspects hit multiple cars before being arrested in South Vancouver

Two people were arrested after attempting to flee police and hitting multiple cars in South Vancouver on Tuesday.

VPD Const. Tania Visintin told Daily Hive the arrest happened after police were called to the area of Alberta Street and West 59th Avenue for reports of “two men in a vehicle with guns.”

Visintin said that as police arrived on scene, “the suspects attempted to flee by ramming their vehicle into police vehicles and civilian vehicles,” before colliding with a tree near Manitoba and West 59th Avenue.

Both suspects were apprehended, one with the assistance of a canine unit, she added.

The incident took place not far from a nearby school, and Visintin said that “out of an abundance of caution, officers asked officials at a nearby school to hold children at school briefly until the situation was resolved.”

She noted the initial 911 call came in just before 2 pm and the “all clear” was given to the school just after 3 pm.

The investigation is ongoing.
