A student was killed at a Surrey elementary school this Sunday, and an investigation into the incident is now underway, according to a release from the Independent Investigations Office (IIO).
RCMP provided the IIO information stating that at 2:40 on February 9, police responded to reports of a person with a weapon at an elementary school in the 7000 block of 188 Street.
The IIO told Daily Hive that a subsequent interaction between the police and the shooting victim occurred near the intersection of 70 Avenue and 185 Street.
After an interaction between the student and police, shots were fired, and a high school student sustained a gunshot-related injury and was later pronounced dead at the scene. Daily Hive has confirmed with the Surrey Schools District (SSD) that the victim was a student at Clayton Heights Secondary.
