Surrey neighbourhood evacuated as ERT team descends on home

Surrey RCMP says the “shots fired” call in Cloverdale is now believed to be related to fireworks.

Traffic in the area is now clear. A number of individuals from within the residence were initially detained as part of this ongoing investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A Cloverdale neighbourhood has been evacuated, and Surrey RCMP are currently on scene after receiving reports of shots fired in the area.

Police said they received reports of shots fired at a residence in the 19400 block of 71 A Avenue around 9:10 am.

Officers attended to the residence, and two individuals are currently in custody. However, there is believed to be more people inside the home.

Now, a perimeter has been set up with residents in the surrounding neighbourhood evacuated. Traffic has also been diverted away from the area and 195th Street remains closed in both directions.

Police have the situation contained but ask residents to stay away from the area at this time. The Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team (ERT) is on scene and assisting with the incident, as well.
