An employee at a popular mountain resort in the BC Interior has tested positive for coronavirus, the resort confirmed this week.

On its website, Sun Peaks Resort – located about 45 minutes north of Kamloops – said it was made aware of “a non-guest facing resort employee that has tested positive for COVID-19 in recent days.”

The resort said it has been in contact with Interior Health as a result, and “various enhanced protocols have been undertaken in numerous areas out of an abundance of caution (including extensive contact tracing efforts).”

In light of this latest development, the resort said it will “continue to take the same comprehensive approach with any further potential or confirmed cases for the duration of this pandemic. We will also continue to monitor everything closely on a daily basis as per our detailed health and safety plans.”

Moving forward with the long weekend at hand, and the summer travel season in full swing, the resort said it looks forward “to seeing everyone continuing to responsibly enjoy the mountain trails and golf course for the remainder of the season. Thanks for playing your part in keeping Sun Peaks safe.”
